Buying groceries in Cancun

I will be staying at the Royal Resort, Club International. I will have a full kitchen and will be taking advantage of it. I hear that the convenience store on site is pricey. Any suggestions as to where to shop and how to access it would be great!

It wasn't too bad but, you can take the bus out front of the resort to Walmart and back. The bus is very inexpensive 3.5 or 6.5 pesos each way. It takes about 15-20 minutes on the bus

There is also a big grocery store in downtown cancun, outside of the hotel zone. I had a car. Price were very good at this grocery store

Was it Mega? There is a great one in Playa del Carmen.

I used the Walmart for groceries when I was in Playa del Carmen. I don't know the name of the grocery store in downtown (outside of hotel zone) when I was in Cancun,

Hi,

When we visited Puerto Vallarta, we shopped at Supermercado Gigante (great selection, prices and we even won $100 shopping spree). I see that they were taken over by another company (Soriana) in 2007 which has a number of grocery stores under the Sucursal name brand in the state of Quintana Roo (to include Cancun, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen).

Maybe those stores you're thinking of are CHEDRAUI or COMERCIAL MEXICANA. These 2 supermarkets are right in front of the government palace, in downtown and not on the hotel zone. However, if you can find a Walmart they usually have better prices. If you have to choose between Chedraui and Com. Mexicana, I'd say go for Chedraui..... at least I like it better.
