Hi,

I am wanting to travel from Rio to Montevideo atthe beginning of July 09. Does anyone know if you can get a bus there? if anyone has any idea how a can purchase a ticket or give me any helpful tips, I would really apprecaite it?

Rio de Janeiro to Montevideo by bus is a boring journey. So I suggest to do the same route using some steps: Rio de Janeiro--> São Paulo--> Porto Alegre-->
Montevideo.
If you search bus tickets in Novo Rio Bus Station you will find several lines, timetables, and bus companies to travel to São Paulo. This route is certainly the most used by brazilians.
From São Paulo to Porto Alegre you may use Itapemirim bus company. It's a great brazilian company that make money carrying out people.

From Porto Alegre you may use TTL (Transporte Turismo Ltda)and go straight to Montevideo or use some other way heading to Uruguay.

There are some nice spots on the way like Florianopolis, Balneario Camboriu, Chuy. Maybe you will risk to go into these towns. Even though July in Brazil is winter/chilly you will love this journey. Rio Grande do Sul state is the main wine producer in Brazil.

its a long journey, why not use air from TAM or GOL airlines ?

Hi, I'vw found some informations to you.
I didn't find a direct bus from Rio to Montevideu, so you should go to Sao Paulo.
First, you should catch a bus from Rio to Sao Paulo. There are a lot of them leaving the Novo Rio Bus Station 24 hours, each 30 minutes.
Second, you should take a bus from Sao Paulo to Montevideu.
The bus leaves Sao Paulo at Mondays, Thurdays and Saturdays and It takes about 28 hours to get Montevideu.
