Buy train tickets in moscow Posted: Tue April 21, 2009 06:29 AM UTC
Hello VT friends.
We are a group of 5 people ( only English spoken) trying to get train tickets from Moscow to St Petersburg in August 4th 2009, I found an information in the Moscow Times on line about two central ticket office booth designated for foreigners located near the Yaroslavsky Station: one is kassa 45 on the second floor of the administrative building between Yaroslavsky and Leningradsky stations. The other is the Central Railway Agency at 5 Komsomolskaya Ploshchad.
The information date is 2007, I wonder if these offices are still working and how risky could be to try to get the tickets just one day in advance.
All the internet places to buy train tickets add 50% or + to the price.
Thanks
Francisco

I just have called to Moscow railways Agency and they said that foreigners buy tickets to internal (Russian Federation) railways in usual (ordinary) tickets offices everywhere without any exceptions showing their passport. And I couldn’t find any specific info for foreigners in site http://www.mza.ru/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/. But tickets are available from 1 to 45 days before trip. Of course you can use “one is kassa 45 on the second floor of the administrative building between Yaroslavsky and Leningradsky stations. The other is the Central Railway Agency at 5 Komsomolskaya Ploshchad” This is the same building . There are a lot of ticket offices there so it will be more fast and convenient. And they have experience to serve to foreigners.

If you find Russians in your place you can buy ticket by internet in Russian Railways site without any additional fees (Russian are need to read and to registry you correctly in this site – unfortunately this site is only Russian) http://www.ticket.rzd.ru/wps/portal/pp#anchor_1

Thanks Morosov for your advice, Im trying to find someone who speaks Russian, and help us to book the tickets on line. As I understand is only possible to book 45 days or less in advance. Thanks again

May be you can try travel agency, like www.davs.ru. I think it is enough to send them fax with your passport data and tell them what train you want. They can also bring the tickets to your hotel or you can pic them from the agency
