Isle of Skye Walking holiday on Skye
Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 08:22 PM UTC
I am thinking of a walking hoilday on Skye. I have some walking experience but would prefer to walk on well marked routes. Can anyone tell me where to stay with plenty walks in the area. Would I need a car to get around or is there public transport?
Thank you.

There are some buses, yes, although you will have more freedom and be able to access more areas with a car.

You can find bus timetables here:

http://www.rapsons.co.uk/Timetable.html

You need to download timetable 4.

I would suggest that, without a car, staying in Portree offers you the widest choice of bus routes.

The official tourist information website on

http://www.skye.co.uk/

will give you lots of information about accommodation, walking etc etc. If you go to each 'area region' page you will find directions for specific walks in that area.

This site:

http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/skye/

will give you nearly 90 detailed, downloadable walking routes for the island.

Enjoy your visit! :-)

We used for our walks on Skye the booklet 'Walks Isle of Skye' (for just GBP 2,95). It offers 30 different walks all over the island, but we found also some 'off the beaten path' sights (Dundulm Castle and Bearreraig Bay).

We stayed in Broadford and had a rental car.

Happy travels
Jaap
