Moscow Where to stay in Moscow?
Posted: Mon April 20, 2009 08:14 PM UTC
Together with 3 friends I'll visit Moscow next summer. I wonder where to stay. Although I'd appreciate concrete hotel tips too, I am especially intrested in hints about the quarter, where the chosen hotel should be situated. Safety, the possibility to go out at night and vicinity to top-sights (or at least effortless reachability to the sights) are important for us...

Hi,
what's your's budget?
It's important question, because most hotels in Moscow are quite expensive and for advice about good place to stay in city, it's very necessary information.
In common, the area inside Garden Ring (Sadovoe Kolzo) is the best place for everything you prefer.

Good luck!

Although all of us are relatively prosperous, I realize that this means nothing in Moscow. Additionally we prefer to travel low-budget.

Hi,
just for your's understanding - the hotels in historical center of Moscow, prices starts from 350 euro per night for standart double room.
For example "Peter I" - not absolutly best hotel in city center, but very good location in charming area, with good shopping and entertainment facilities. Close to the Red Square and others main sights.

The hotels close enough to the historical center, prices starts from 220 euro per night for standart double room.
For example "Novotel Moscow-Center" or "Holiday Inn Lesnaya" - they are not in city center, but not far from interesting tourist places and nightlife places.
Next to Metro station(especially "Novotel"), so good transport connection (about 10 minutes to center).

Hope I help!
Good luck!

okay we were in the same boat a few months back but i think we are happy with what we have chosen
there is only me and my OH travelling but we still opted for an apartment
in moscow i wanted to stay round the arbat area ( and ex pats confirm that it is a good location - so is kitai gorod)

i didnt want to stay out far - my friend did with her family and travelling on the metro lost its shine after a while especially if you dont read russian ( she does but found it so hectic)

so we are staying at an apartment called Old Arbat deluxe-sleeps quite a few people
it was 412 aud a night but split between three friends itd be fine i think
havea google and see what you think
it is a good area for walking round- touristy for sure but then if youre not in the touristy parts things are pretty grim
we also had the option of a hotel out on tsvetnaya but i was drawn to the arbat because id seen a dvd- pilots guide to russia and it featured that area

my friend was horrified by the standard of her hotel room in moscow- the pillows were disgusting and she is not particularly fussy
this is the price you pay when you go further out from the centre
they as a family were often approached by drunks when they were going home to their hotel after a day of touring and the park that separated them from the station and their hotel was poorly lit

i emailed our consulate here and they were very emphatic = carry original documents with you the whole time
make sure everything is in order and keep photocopies of your details - passport and visa etc in your hotel
also make sure that you register within three days of getting in
your hotel might do this for you but do check
and keep all dockets of purchases with you upon exit

because we are staying in an apartment, the company who rents these out has had to do our registration for us- for a fee of course- hopefully all is in order and we wont be approached by the militsia

looking forward to our trip but it has been a bit of a hassle to organise everything since we are not doing a tour
good luck
have fun

I recommend an alternative to the hotels - short-term apartments. I have stayed in the short-term apartment during my visit to Moscow in December and was quite impressed by the price and quality. I booked an apartment via http://www.budgetmoscow.com They seemed to me quite professional.

Hi,

The best option will be the short-term apartment rental. It will cost you less than a half of the price of any hotel.
When are you planing to visit Moscow and for how many days? I've got a friend who has an apartment which you can take for a week or too and it is in the center of the city (I can show you it on the map if you are interested).

my email is mandachivan@gmail.com, so if you are interested just let me know, and we'll discuss the details...
