Hi
My Daughter and her friend are travelling to Seoul for 2 weeks at the end of August/beggining of September.
She would like to stay in the Hongik area, preferably in a hotel. twin room ensuite(a must!)- as they are on a budget price has to be good too!
Main reason for stay in area is the nightlife - so she wants to be able to get "home" easily at night.
Is there anywhere else (within walking distance) she could stay?
The other alternative is staying in Hongik a few nights and elsewhere rest of time - suggestions welcome!
I have tried to look on internet but prices for each place vary so much from site to site!
(I have decided to stay at Yims Hotel in Insa Dong area - as it is cheap and central - she would stay too if it were easy to get back from Hongik)
Any ideas??

Have you looked into any of the guesthouses in the area? I can't recommend any in particular but have heard that Lee & No's Guesthouse is pretty nice. They are much cheaper than a hotel and good way to meet people. Honestly, there aren't many hotels near that area. Insadong is not that close to the Hongdae area and the subway shuts down early...compared to when the clubs close. If they really are set on staying in a hotel that is in walking distance, you might want to try the Mapo-gu area as well as the Shinchon area. it would only be a few blocks walk and Seoul is very safe...especially since she won't be alone. If she doesn't want to walk, taxis are easy to hail in that area.

I recommend you Hong Guesthouse.
Hong guesthouse is located in Hongik Area.
I was able to get there with direct bus from Incheon airport.
And 5 min walk from the bus stop.
I stayed at twinroom w/ my friend.
The manager speaks English fluently so he was able to help us with directions and good place to eat and stuff.
The subway station was about 6~7 min walk, but everything i needed was all nearby.
