Hello folks,

needing some design ideas for my backyard garden, I thought paying a visit to the Chelsea Flower show might be something fun to do, and of course it also gives me an excuse to visit London altogether -- has anyone been there yet and can tell some of their impressions? Is it terribly full? ( I would try not to go one one of the weekend days) Does it have many sample gardens to look at? My space in question is a typical smallish suburban plot, about 11 metres wide and 25 metres long.

Any opinions/suggestions out there?

Yes, absolutely. I'm really not into plants and gardening, but we went two years running, and absolutely loved it - spectacular flowers and gardens, like works of art. It's always sold out, and very crowded: you must buy tickets in advance, which you can over the Web.

It's a while since I have been, but Chelsea is always packed, so you must book a ticket in advance. It takes place from 19-23 May. Information at http://www.rhs.org.uk/whatson/shows/chelsea2009/

And yes, they have lots of show gardens (though I have heard that there may not be quite so many this year as some of the sponsors have pulled out because of the financial climate!).

It is absolutely worth going, if you don't mind crowds. There is a section for small suburban gardens.
