I don't know why you couldn't find any tours online. I googled "pompeii mt vesuvius tour" and up popped lots. The very first one is a tour to both places in one day from Sorrento or Naples. In fact, as I remember, most tours offer the two places in one day. I personally would do one on one day and one on another - you don't need a guided tour for either. From Sorrento, it is very easy to do the tours yourself. Take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Pompeii Scavi and the site is right there - the trains run frequently and are very inexpensive. We didn't go to Vesuvius but did investigate the travel and again, it is easy from Sorrento. We didn't go to Vesuvius as when we were in Sorrento in February 2008, the site was closed..... couldn't find out exactly why but the informed told us it was because rubbish/garbage from Naples was being dumped in the vicinity and the place was rather rat-infested. On the other hand, it may have been because we were in the area early in the season - I doubt it though because the transport goes to and from all year.

It's very easy to do both on the same day - I did Ercolano first and then caught a small tour up to Vesuvius after. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes for the climb - the trail is cinders and easy to slide on. Enterprising Italians actually rent wallking sticks for the tourists. You can be equally enterprising and eavesdrop on a guided tour if you don't have time for the whole thing...

I can see Herculaneum and Vesuvius as a two in one day but not really Pompeii and Vesuvius.

Thank you all and thank you Hawkead you are a weath of informaiton... I did google it but the only ones that came up were privet tours for E500+ and not to be silly but that was way out of my range. What I was looking for was a tour that took 3-5 peolpe up and back like at St. Peters. No matter we will make it work.
Thanks

When I answered I was thinking you wanted to do Herculaneum and Vesuvius on the same day - I realize now you meant POMPEII and Vesuvius. You could do both, but you will have to pick just a portion of Pompeii as it is HUGE. Again, wear
sturdy shoes without heels - Pompeii is dusty with lots of uneven pavement. If it's hot - there's no shade so if your skin is sensitive to the sun you might
want to take an umbrella.

Don't forget to take water into Pompeii. It is a hot and dusty site. There is a cafe but it will most probably not be on your route when you want it! Also, the water on site is expensive. You should rent an audio tour, which is very good value. The leaflet that comes with it outlines tours of varying length, classified as to how long you might have i.e. 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, etc. For loos, there are loos by the ticket office i.e. outside the site. The other loos are at the cafe. When you go to Pompeii, make sure you arrive first thing, as the site opens. It will be much quieter and you will be able to see much more.
