Dubrovnik Transport from Dubrovnik to Budapest

Can anyone offer suggestions to get from Dubrovnik to Budapest, other than using Croatia or Malev airlines? We would prefer to fly, but find air travel between these two cities to be VERY expensive.

Only other way is to take bus.
Dubrovnik bus time table can be found at www.libertasdubrovnik.com
Dubrovnik bus station can be found at www.croatiatraveller.com
or any info on Dubrovnik at www.dubrovnik-online.com
You can get bus from Dubrovnik to Zagreb at: 06.00 07.00 10.00 18.00 19.00 21.00 22.00
Chek Zagreb train station at: www.hznet.hr for trains to Budampest.
Zagreb Gl. kol. - Budapest-Kelenfo

Hope this helps.

You can fly rather cheap to Zagreb (Croatia Airlines), and then change for a train to Budapest. This way you'll avoid long bus journey, and if you book early enough you can even pay less for the flight than for the bus ride to Zagreb.

Other option is to use some cheap flight from Dalmatia (Dubrovnik or Split) to Bratislava, and then take a train to Budapest. Check Sky Europe and Danube Wings. For trains check www.bahn.de.

During the summer there should be a train connection between Split and Budapest. You can easily reach Split from Dubrovnik by bus.

If you'll use train between Croatia and Hungary note that Croatian and Hungarian railways offer a 60% discount on return tickets. This means that buying a return ticket can be cheaper than buying a single ticket, even if you don't mean to use the return portion of the ticket.

Hope this helps.

Pity, some years ago skyEurope flied Budapest-Dubrovnik... now they seem to have cancelled these flights
I'd second an option to fly to Zagreb an take a train to Budapest (it costs about 29 Euro raound trip, I checked recently as I'm thinking to take it)

I am flying from Bratislava to Dubrovnik for 39 Euros on 1 July on Sky Europe. I would suggest flying in the opposite direction then taking a bus or train from Bratislava to Budapest. Sky Europe also flies from Dubrovnik to Vienna which has easy bus and train connections to Budapest.
