so many parks and wineries to choose from Posted: Sun April 19, 2009 02:16 PM UTC
Hi!
I was doing some research and I realised that there was so many choices for parks and wineries.
For eg. if I want to go to one winery, should I choose one in Fremantle/Swan Valley/Margaret River?
Besides that, for parks:Nambung National Park/Yanchep National Park/any other parks you know of, which would you recommend and why?
just to put things into context, I am looking for a place which is hopefully easily accessible by public transport from Perth and the most affordable. =)
Also, is there any place where I can learn more about the aborigines?
Thanks!

You will not get a winery in fremantle period. Not Swan Valley verses Margaret River it depend on how much time you have and what you want to see. Swan Valley is about 1 hr of travelling and offers the retail outlets of the wineries in the southwest, bearing in mind that not all grapes are grown in one region to make a particular wine. Margaret River however is 2 1/2 hours away and offers the premium of wines for WA.
If you staying close to perth then yes Swan Valley, or do a wine tasting tour on board our many tours on the swan river, save you going to the wineries. Hmm What in particular do you want to know about aborigines, they are a part of us and we dont sub class, is it history, artifacts, dance or music?
Cheers H

Hi Swan Valley is in metropolitan Perth and there are some very good wineries there. The easiest way to see these is take a Captain Cook cruise up to the wineries, usually they stop at Sandalford for lunch or refreshments

We live in Perth and a month ago I drove up to Yanchep National Park, only 56km from Perth centre, straight up Marmion Avenue for 40km of the trip. An excellent park for a visitor, photos on my Yanchep page.Unsure if public transport will get you there. Aboriginal Experience on weekends.
Kings Park is magnificent, located 2km from city centre, a free cat bus will get you there. visited it 2 weeks ago, just magnificent and a great view over the city and Swan River.
Margaret River is 300km south of Perth, many first class wineries, I am certain there would be overnight coach tours to this district, overwise you will have to hire a car.
When I was at Kings Park several years ago there was a shop that had genuine aboriginal objects, cannot say if it is still there.
Enjoy your visit,
Mike

thanks for the replies.
to answer your question about the aborigines, I guess a little of everything: history, artifacts, dance or music! so would you recommend the yanchep aborigine weekend event? is it included in the admission fee or do I have to pay extra?
another problem that I'm having is that there are attractions both south and north of Perth. any recommendations on how I can explore both regions in bout 2 weeks? or would u recommend that I choose one?
actually, I'm not so much interested in tasting wines, but more to see the actual vineyards, so would Swan Valley or Margaret River be better for this?

Hi Vineyards are the same everywhere, it is the cellars, restaurants and point of sale that varies.
When are you visiting WA as in winter the vines lose their leaves. The Swan Valley has some very attractive vineyards, Houghtons, etc etc.
Margaret River can be wet and cold during winter.
Go to my Yanchep page and use the web address for the park, Admission is $10 for the day but there is a small admission for Aboriginal and other attractions, all details on the web site, opening times etc etc.

I second the Captain Cook trip to the wineries. They do half day and full day tours, plus the trip on the Swan River is nice. www.captaincookcruises.com. I always recommend this site for trips - www.westernxposure.com.au.
As Mike said, the Aboriginal show at Yanchep National Park is extremely good. Yanchep is also good for caves, bushwalking and seeing kangaroos & koalas up close & personal. Only trouble is, Yanchep is best to get to by car. However, I do see that Western Xposure do Yanchep NP on their trip to the Pinnacles - might be worth checking out.
I have a write up on my Yanchep, Cervantes, Middle Swan and Upper Swan pages.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Ann.

Maragaret river is about 4hrs from Perth - so many amazing wineries but you may need to go for a fews days and you will need a car!! So i think Sawn Valley would be easier.
