Beer Halls or Gardens in Neuperlach Posted: Sat April 18, 2009 06:23 PM UTC
Hello all. My wife and I will be spending 6 days in Munich(our third trip here)after spending 4 days in Franconia. We are trying out vacation apartments, or Fe-Wos. The one we are staying at is in Neuperlach Zentrum. I don't know much about this area. Does anyone have a recommendation of a local beerhall or beergarden? I know of many in other areas of Munich, but not in this area. Also would be open to good resteraunts.

I'm not too familiar with Neuperlach, but there's a terrific microbrewery in Altperlach. The Forschungsbrauerei is located on Unterhaichingerstrasse 76. Should be a quick drive or taxi ride... or if you're going by public transportation, take the U-5 to Neuperlach Süd, then change to the S-6 inbound 1 stop to Perlach. Turn left on the path to Sebastian Brauer Strasse. Turn left across the tracks. Turn right on Weidenerstrasse, then right again on Unterhaichingerstrasse, crossing the tracks again. Take a look at http://www.forschungsbrauerei.de/english.html for details.

BTW, StadtBus 196 will also take you you close by. It will drop you off at Weidenerstrasse -- turn right (with your back to the railroad tracks) and follow the directions I gave you above. The bus schedule is limited, especially late nights, so it's good to know you can take the S-Bahn, U-Bahn combination home... 8)

I have friends in Neuperlach. It is a residential suburb and not very exciting. It did not exist before the late 1960's, and most houses are several storeys high and apartment buildings. It was one if not even the biggest housing project in Germany after WW2.
When going out, we normally went to other suburbs. As you have subway (U-Bahn) and tramway you get away rather fast and efficiently, no changes needed to get right into the very city centre.
If you are looking for the address travelfrosch gave you, there was an i too many ;-) It is Unterhachinger Straße and not Unterhaichinger Straße. Unterhaching is another suburb further out of Munich, not far from Neuperlach. It is a town that has grown over time, not compare with the heart- and soul-less Neuperlach.

Thanks for the info, both of you. Turns out Forschungsbrauerei(which I had heard of, but never been there) is only about a mile or so from where we are staying. So that is great news! I look forward to enjoying a few there, and once again, thanks.

lol, looked at the scale on the map again, and it's a bit more than a mile, but still not bad at all.
