Brussels Please help to cope with Thalys offers!
Posted: Fri April 17, 2009 09:56 PM UTC
Hi everyone!

I am new to this site. Let me thank all of you for writing so much useful and interesting info here.
Me and my husband are coming to Brussels on April 22 and will stay there till April 27. We were thinking of having 1 day trip to Paris on Friday or Saturday.
I tried to book train tickets at Thalys website (www.thalys.com). Frankly speaking, we are searching for some cheap offers. I have found this "Thalys Day" among permanent offers (http://www.thalys.com/be/en/holiday-travel-and-special-offers/permanent-offers/thalys-day). In short, it says that one can have a return trip to Paris for 40e or 80 e. Ticket should be booked in advance. And here comes the trouble. I cannot figure out how to book tickets using this offer.
Selecting "Book" on the left page side it gives me some other ticket prices. I have tried multiple trains/dates/times and never I got the final price of either 40e or 80e for the round trip.
What do I do incorrectly? Do I understand something wrong?
Any feedback and advise will be much appreciated!

Thank you all,
Rina

Looks like you encounter two problems :

"on sale in limited quantities only to certain destinations".
==> There are only limited number of those tickets at that price. Once those tickets have sold out, you'll get 'promoted' to higher prices...

More important in your case :
"on sale up until 7 days before departure"
==> Your date is too close....

Hope this is useful, though I know it really doesn't help you getting cheap to Paris...

It's quite late to be looking for special offers, but I just looked at the Thalys site for Friday 24 and found it would be possible to do a day trip for €95 (€52 out and €43 return). Not quite as cheap as the offer you saw, but only a little more expensive.

I see now that I understood everything correctly over the Thalys website %) Have read all those things before posting, just hoped my understanding was wrong.

Thank you for your help!

I think 95e is not that much, but we were thinking of traveling for 40e ;) I should have learned much earlier about their discounts. Next time I will be more farsighted.

Thank you for your info and help!
