I will be in Kuwait for about 15 hours, on my way to Bangladesh, and I would like to leave the airport to see Kuwait City. However, I have a Cyprus passport, and I am not entitled to a visa on arrival at the airport. Does anyone know whether that rule (of 35 countries whise citizens can obtain a visa on arrival) is strictly enforced? Would I be able to may be get a transit visa instead?
If the answer to the above is "No" (!), how can I get "sponsored" by a Kuwaiti national (or may be hotel) in order to get the visa approved?

Yes, you are correct that Cypriots cannot get the visa on arrival. And yes, unfortunately that rule is strictly enforced.
Your best bet is to contact an upmarket hotel, which are often willing to sponsor you. Alternatively contact the Kuwaiti embassy in Athens to see of they will issue you a 24 h transit visa. Their address is

Thank you George. I will try the Kuwait embassy in Athens, and hopefully they will be less strict in issuing visas for Cypriots. I have also heard that hotels organise visas for their customers, but I don't seem to be able to find any hotel's contact e-mail. It seems that you are only able to book them through a travel agent or a tourist website....And as I will only be staying there for 1 night, they may not be as interested in assisting me with them visa.

By the way, where are you from in Cyprus? You are the only Cypriot I've met you seems to be as obsessed with travelling as I am!!!
