Shoes to wear in machu pichu?

Hi,Will a good pair of running shoes work or should I really have light hiking boots?

I am planning to hike huayna pichu by the way :)

I saw many people in running shoes... Pehaps you will need the boots if the terrain is wet.
But you have to be there early in case you really want to hike HuaynaPichu. At the time I arrived there from Cusco(by train & bus) the mountain was already closed. It was a bit frustating, as I didn´t know about the limit of visitors per day.
