Family Accommodation - Krabi Posted: Fri April 17, 2009 12:54 PM UTC
Hi VTers,
Wondering if anyone can recommend a few Krabi hotels / resorts which are suitable for a family (2 adults, children are 11, 10, 7).
Looking for things like family suites, kids club, activities.
Any other recommendations (even if you want to recommend another part of Thailand) will be happily accepted.
Thanks for reading.

Recently revisited and spent a week in the Krabi area. It seems the most popular destinations remain the island of Ko Phi Phi and Ao Nang on the mainland BUT if you're looking for a beach resort area that's easily accessible and NOT overrunned (at least not this time of the year compared to peak seaon which is late Nov. to late Feb.), then I'd recommend focusing on East Railay/Rai Leh (or any other number of spelling combinations). Or if you're a slumdog millionaire, you could also stay at the nearby Rayarvardee which serves the life styles of the rich and famous with it's not so exclusive beach (tons of daytripping visitors invade the beach!). Or, if you're seeking an even more laid back atmosphere, ther's Ko Jum and Ko Lanta. Overall, the West Railey beach 'resorts' offer white sand scenic beaches but you're going to pay more for meals since these resorts are a bit more upscale. than the East Rai Leh side. You'll really need to do a daytrip for decent snorkelling but you can also hire kayaks right off the beach.

I'm not sure what part of Krabi you are wanting info on. We stayed in Railay. I don't think that would be too fun for the kids if they get tired of going to the beach. There was a very nice Sheraton in Ao Nang. They might have activities/facilities for the kids there. You stay in cottages in Railay. Definitely, pay for an air conditioned room if you stay in a cottage. At least go to Ao Nang to ride the elephants! Realize there are no medical facilities in Railay. You would have to go to Ao Nang (I was told) for medical attention.
Anyway, I've only been once and not too familiar with other popular places like Phuket, Pattaya or Ko Samui. I've posted quite a few pics and tip for Krabi, in particular where we stayed in Railay.
