Re: travel between honduras and guatemala Posted: Tue April 21, 2009 07:50 AM UTC
Interesting question & I'm curious as to what others have to say about this topic. It looks like the infrastructure for tourism in this area is not fully developed. I'm also interested in this topic as I may end up going to this part of the world if my travel plans work out after all. From my research, it seems like there's a limited ferry schedule from Placencia in Belize to Puerto Cortes in Honduras. I checked on-line for you and it seems like for most of the time, you'll have to do an overland trip between Guatemala and Honduras with an exception around the Livingston-Puerto Barrios route, where you'll need to take either a boat ride or a ferry service along the Rio Dulce. So based on one person's account through their on-line blog via "google," here's the breakdown: Livingston-Puerto Barrios-Guatemalan border-Corinto-Puerto Cortes-San Pedro Sula-La Ceiba.
Also, do check the VT travel guide for further info. You may find write ups there about this topic--not sure because I have not looked there yet. You can also check VT members who live in that area of the world, but make sure they are active members with current log in info as evident by their log in date. Check VT member "euzkadi" who is in my friends' list because he lives in Guatemala and is a wonderful source for info. He may know more about this topic.
Good luck & enjoy your Central American trip!
