Rio de Janeiro Traveling to Rio?
Posted: Wed April 15, 2009 09:07 PM UTC
Hey I am a 23 yr old student living in Rio from May 1 until Aug 1 2009. I have been traveling around the world and finally found a place I like enough to stay for a while. If any college age (in reality or at heart) tourists or travelers need some advice or want someone to show them around, message me or comment on this forum. I know people I found on sites like these greatly improved my travels abroad so I plan to return the favor!

That's a nice offer, man! I am so envious you are living there in Rio- beautiful place. But too bad just until Aug 2009...I plan to visit next year though because I think my visa for Brazil is expiring soon! It is on my other passport though whihc is already full - I wonder if I can just bring that old passport and still use the visa? I guess I could...I hope you build your Rio pages here on VT while the place is still fresh on your mind...more power, Norman :)

Hey, I am going to Brazil next week from the UK. I am travelling to Manaus but I have a 12 hour change in Rio, arriving about 11am. I would like to know if it is worth leaving the airport. I will go mad in the aiport but I will have a big bag and I know the aiport is quite a way from the centre. Do you have any ideas of somewhere near the aiport to go to?

12 hour? If I were you I would leave the airport. You could leave you bag in a storage room and see a little of the city.. The international airport, the one you should arrive, is not far from the city centre. It should take you around one hour to get to Copacabana (without traffic - I think at 11am, even on a week day, you'll scape from it). The taxi might be a little expensive, but there's a bus REAL that goes around the coast.

Closer to the airport is the city centre. You could walk around and see old buildings, the arches of Lapa..

hey how's it going?

My girlfriend and i are leaving Northern Ireland and starting our tour round the world June 20th, we begin in Rio for a week or so. Not sure about anything really - wana see the sights etc. but also wana get some Brasilian partying done. Was gona get a hotel to ease ourselves into the travelling gentley but it seems very expensive.

What areas are worth looking at for accomodation? Want to keep the cost down but obv. also want to stay safe.

ta

Niall
