Salou From salou to Sitges
Posted: Wed April 15, 2009 07:29 PM UTC
We are a middle aged gay couple traveling in mid June for a couple of weeks. We have decided to base in Salou as Sitges is a little too gay for us. However we would like to party in Sitges a few nights but not too keen to go to the bother of booking hotels there as we will probably be out very late anyway. We were wondering on the cost of Taxi fare between the two resorts or any other suggestions as to how we might proceed .

the cheapest would be the Renfe (train), at a cost of only 3.30 euros and about an hours travelling from Tarragona. Tarragona is easily reached by train or Plana bus from Salou. You may also want to know that Jimmy's Club in Salou is starting a gay night, every Saturday from May the 2nd.

In my opinion, a place like 'Vilanova i la Geltru' would be a better choice than Salou. It is much closer to Sitges, nearer Barcelona and in between Barcelona and Tarragona making visiting either one of those places very easy by train. See Belsaita's page (here on VT) for info on Vilanova, she's a native of the town.

Personally, I would stay anywhere BUT Salou. I was there once to visit some family friends and found it to be package-tour hell. Just lots of Brits out to get pissed and sunburnt. But, hey, whatever turns your crank.

Let me know if you need more info.

I guess badger spent his days (and nights) in the wrong pub in Salou. I'm visiting again next week for my seventh visit and have yet to get pissed. never been in one of many 'brit bars' and have always enjoyed Salou and its surrounding towns. Whether spending an afternoon in Hospitalet, Cambrils, Reus or Tarragona, all have their own personality.

Salou itself offers lots for everyone, millions spent on it's promenade, attractive fountains and a decent old town. Sure it has international bars but also many Spanish / Catalan shops, diners and pubs. It's beaches are clean and the council have taken great strides to improve the town. Visitors are welcomed and the locals are friendly. Treat people nice and they tend to treat you nice, show a willingness to grasp the language and they smile and laugh with you, not at you. You say you will be based in Salou, enjoy, we do.
