The fee is determined by your bank not the ATM company here.
A percentage fee is steep and no way around it. You can't therefore take eg $1000 out to avoid smaller withdrawal fees.
I had French visitors and they both had different bank cards. One had a percentage fee and the other a set amount withdrawal fee. They discovered this by viewing the charges on their account via internet banking. I strongly recommend you get your credit card added to your internet banking to monitor this.

Maybe you could ask around and get what is called a Travel Card. It's a Debit Card in NZDollars, that you do the currency conversion before you leave Australia. Then the withdrawals are in kiwidollars. Check tho about the ATM fees for the withdrawals. This could well be a suitable option.
You don't tell us who you bank with. Is it a major bank?

I always withdraw cash with my (foreign) bank card and not with the credit card, as there is only a fee per transaction and not percentage. However, the daily limit in NZ is NZ$ 800. (Do not know if this is with all banks in NZ but surely with BNZ, and I think, I also encountered it with ASB. But Pam - kiwi - would know this...)

I'm not sure that is necessarily correct information. A cash advance/withdrawal over the counter could likely still attract a fee. Depends on your own bank.

Yes I hope you do, and sure you will. Is it your first visit here?
Hope also that you come back to us with your experiences with ATMs and fees after you get home. IT's good to hear people's individual experiences.
