Marrakesh Cheap 1 day trips into the High Atlas Mountains?
Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 10:38 PM UTC
Hi Everyone

My friend and I are arriving in Marrakesh on 20 April for a few days and are really keen to do a 1 day trip into the High Atlas mountains...
I think shed like to see the Tiz-n_Tichka or the Tiz-n-Test.
Where can we find CHEAP one day excursions (Im on a limited budget- prob £40/$50 max. ) Ive found some websites offering excursions but NONE of them quote prices?

I also know we can hire a grand taxi for the day and Ive seen quotes from 600-750D for the day. Is that for the whole taxi or for EACH of us??
Please tell me yr stories of where U went, what was good and most importantly the COST!
Also id like to know about day trips to Essioura in case we decide to go there.

thanks
boddism

We made two day trips to the Atlas Mountains:

-Tizi-n-Test with a 'grand taxi' (car with driver) including a visit tio the Tin Mal Mosque for 750 dirham (whole taxi);

-Tizi-n-Tichka and Telouet wit a rental car for 600 dirham; most probably you can find a cheaper one.
You will find ‘thousands’ of rental agencies. The local ones are much cheaper than the well known international companies like Hertz and Avis. We rented the car through our hotel from ‘West Car’.

See for more info my Marrakesh page.
Happy travels
Jaap

Last year, we hired a grande taxi for the day to take us to the Ourika valley, Essioura and (on different days) Ouarzazit. The days out cost us 1100 - 1400 Dirham per day (there were three of us and a mobility scooter).
The Ourika valley trip was wonderful. There was an obligatory stop at a 'friends store' but no compulsion to buy and it was a good place to stop, use the toilets and have a cup of tea.
Ouarzazit took 3 1/2 hours each way. Add in a couple of breaks to look at the views (spectacular), lunch and you've got a long day. Not really a day trip as far as I'm concerned.
Essioura was good day out, especially if you like sea food and shopping.
Of course the prices might have changed. We got our driver off the street (waved him down for a trip into Marrakch) liked him and his style of driving and asked about day trips. Hey presto 'Mustapha's your uncle'.
His name was Mustapha Belbayed but I've lost his number.
Marrakech and Essioura are overrun by hawkers selling fake watches, handbags and anything you can think of. Don't buy them they're crap and you'll be lucky if they last the holiday.

Have a look at his website: " www.revesdumaroc.fr " or phone him +212666946863. If you can i would stay one overnight in the mountains with a berber family, just fantastic and a real experience. have a look at my page i made about the villages; marrakech pages by keppe.

For a day trip to Essaouira you have several choices, Supratours offer a day return ticket for 130Dh, The station is close to the railway station, you can also take a local bus from Bab Dukala, it makes many stops on the way but is cheap ! you can also take a shared taxi for 100DH each. A guided tour is not neccesary as Essaouira is a small place and you can find your way around without difficulty.
I hope that helps....

Hi,
I advise you to go to mountains, it is very dirty and no good hotels or resturans, not to mention the toielts. In fact, I saw people doing it in the open.
