Copenhagen Cruise ship terminal to town
Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 09:58 PM UTC
We arrive on a cruise ship this fall. Is town or the city within walking distance of the cruise terminal? Is most of the highlights to see within walking distance of the cruise terminal? Thanks

Yes - It Must be one of the closest cruise terminals to all the attractions of a city centre anywhere in the world.
Depending on how many hours you have you should be able to see most things of interest including - within what seems like a few paces -The Little Mermaid ( if you can get close enough - because of crowds) Amalienburg Palace, the new opera House across the water and the old opera house in the main square.

You would do well to buy a small pocket guide book with good street maps, mark what you want to see and plot out your route on the maps.
See the Radhus, Nyhaven and the shops and restaurants that line the quays along the canal, the main shopping area on Stroget and lots more, depending on how much time you have. enjoy your visit

As mentioned, Nyhavn was magnificent with all the boats. My wife and I left on a cruise from the port and it is within walking distance to most sites. I felt one of the highlights for me was walking up the RoundHouse/Rundetarn and viewing the city from the top, 120 feet high and 50 feet in diameter this round tower is amazing because being built in the 1600's they took a horse drawn carriage to the top. See website: http://www.rundetaarn.dk/engelsk/intro.htm
The other highlight but in another direction was Tivoli, the park that inspired Walt Disney. Beautiful grounds and rides. See website: http://www.tivoli.dk/composite-3351.htm

you can walk to the center of town from the cruise terminal, but it is a bit of a hike.
a cab ride will cost you around 15-20 us doillars or if you want some fresh air then you can take one of the many bicycle taxis that goes through the center of copenhagen.
they are about the same price as a regular taxi.
