Machu Picchu Huayna Picchu

I was wondering if anyone knows how busy is in the end of may. I will be doing the Inca trail and will be arriving to MP on May 25th. If I get there around 7eish am, will I be able to climb huayna picchu?. The company that I am doing the Inca trail with,is saying I might not be able.

Thank you

My neighbour has been to macchu picchu several times. She said that if you want to go to huyana picchu you need to go to the entrance as soon as you get to macchu picchu in the morning. This is because there is a limited number of people allowed on huyana picchu every day. In high season it gets full very fast, so you wont have time to look at the macchu picchu ruins before climbing Huyana.

I´m going in july but will wait and se if I have enough energy to climb Huyana Picchu after the Inca Trail....

Good luck!

Usually by 10 or 11 in the morning the limit has been reached and the gate is closed to entry. You should be fine if you go immediately from your tour or split away before they are done. Our guided tour of the site started just after the sun rose and we ditched out just before they finished and still made the gate in plenty of time to get through to Huayna Picchu.

The other posters are correct - they do have a list of how many are going up to Huayna Pichu (if I remember right, they only allow 200? at any one time)...so I did go to the site early at about 7 AM and was still able to go up...It was an unforgettable tiring experience and I advice you to go ahead and do it. Great views and nice hike up! Norman :)

Nancy, the first group of 200 persons would have already been on their way up HP by 7 am. The next group of 200 persons are ushered in around 10 am, so if you can make it to the HP entrance before 10, then you may have a chance to get in depending on whether occupancy levels have been met then. I suggest you queue up for HP as soon as possible, but then again by doing so, you may fail to get a good tour of MP from your Inca Trail trek guides. You can go back to MP later after your HP adventure because your MP entrance ticket will still allow you to, and you can just do a self-guided tour of MP OR get an amateur guide in MP OR join one of the tour groups to hear from their expert guides. :-)

Good Luck & Enjoy Beautiful Peru!
