Beer Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 12:14 AM UTC
I am arriving in Ho Chi Mihn at 10 pm. By the time i get to my hotel, say 11 pm, will there be bars open for the thirsty traveler?

I know when I was there many of the guesthouses/accommodations had little beer fridges at check in where you could buy beer.
If you're staying downtown I think it's pretty safe to say that at 11pm some bars will definitely be open. I was out late a few nights.

If your staying in or near the backpacker area you should find a few bars open along the streets, and probably a few travelers and expats sitting outside enjoying beer and conversation.
If your not staying in that area then you might find the hotel has a bar. Kind of hit or miss not knowing the area you will be staying.

Head down to Pham Ngu Lao, there are a number of all night drinking spots there. D1 tends to close at 12.

Go to the following web site and type in your hotel address. its in Vietnamese but look to the sidebar on the right. http://www.diadiem.com/, enter the hotel address in the Letter A box and click on TIM. You will have general idea of the area. It's on the outer edge of the backpacker area. I've biked past there many times. Go left when you leave the hotel and walk about 70 feet and you'll start to see other Westerners in bars and restaurants or sitting right on the street.
