Does anyone know of a place in Dublin or close by that rents Vespa type scooters for the day? I got no results from Google.

This is a tough one, I found two sites that rent motor bikes but don't seem to have scooters www.irishbike.com and www.motorental.ie You could try them anyway, or try the Dublin Motorcycle Touring Club on www.dmtconline.info who may be able to advise you.
I live near a couple of motorcycle shops that sell scooters, I can call in and ask them tomorrow, so will get back to you.

I've made inquiries locally and there doesn't seem to be anyone renting scooters in Dublin! www.motorental.ie (already mentioned in previous reply) are based in Naas, about 20 miles from Dublin but only seem to do motorcycles.
If I find out anything else I'll let you know but it doesn't look hopeful. All the best, AM
