I'll be in Shanghai for 7 days in July together with my two daughters (11,12 years old). I'm trying to find a nice place to stay. a friend of mine recommended that I stay in the pullman shanghai skyway or the Hong Kong plaza serviced apartments
could you please advice me on which one you think is a good place to stay
thanks

I would prefer to stay in Puxi instead of Pudong, but the Grand Hyatt's location is acceptable if you don't mind taking the metro every time you want to cross the river.
Are you looking at these hotels because of points accumulation or something?

I agree, stay in Puxi, the west side of Shanghai. This is the older side, the side with some character. Remember, most of Pudong, The East side of the river, did not exist 15 years ago,it is all chrome and glass.

That said, the places to check out are in the Bund area, Jing An or French Concession. My favorites are the City Hotel and Central View Suites Shanghai in the Jing An District. The latter is especially nice for its Asian decor and relatively low price. There are good Chinese restaurants with English menus nearby. Let me recommend Bi Feng Tang, obe of my favorites.

It is easy and cheap to get a taxi to the many tourist sites in Shanghai. It is also close to the subway, which is cheap, quick and easy to figure out.

Still not a very favourable location, I'd say not much better compared to the other two.
