Taxi to Lourdes from Pau Posted: Fri April 10, 2009 10:04 AM UTC
Hello, Can anyone advise me the price of the taxi from Pau airport to Lourdes? Would it be easy to book a taxi returning to Pau from Lourdes for early morning flights?
Are there much to travel around Lourdes worth hiring a car for? and the parking in Lordes?
thanks

You will find access information on the airport website in English:
http://www.pau.aeroport.fr/en/access/shuttle-buses.php
Taxis from the airport to Tarbes will be 20+euro.
There is a shuttle to Lourdes from Tarbes which you can pre-book (details on the link). Its fares will give you an idea of potential taxi costs.
The official tourist information site will give you details of transportation and local sites in English:

you were given good links to get info, plus the transportation pages of VT Destination Lourdes here
as for travel around Lourdes, depends on your personal tastes. there is beautiful scenery mountaineous, and the nice town of Bagnieres-de-Bigorre, at Tarbes there is a nice city center to explore. The mountain area of pic du midi de bigorre are impressive(with an observatory look out on top) so is the pic d'Aspin. A town bit further is St-Bertrand-de-Comminges(story of St Bernard with a magnificent cathedral of Ste-Marie. There are many caves in the area, but not into them.
You can have a nice drive with the car, my favorite way to travel ::)
There is plenty of parking in Lourdes, no problems

If you are only going to Lourdes to see Lourdes itself, then you definitely do not need a car. Lourdes is for walking, or if you are really feeling lazy you can get on the little train/bus thingy that drives all around the town and will (I think) deliver you to the castle or the Pic de Jer. I know that pedmar lives in France and knows so much more than the rest of us about his beautiful country, but I do have to disagree with him on the question of parking in Lourdes. I have been there twice in a car and had a horrendous time trying to find parking, but then again, pedmar would have so much more local knowledge than we visitors do. Enjoy Lourdes, it's a sentimental favourite of mine.

well posting from grey rainy Honfleur,in my apartment hre with the family on our Easter weekend sorry to tell you this ::)
yes, on parking, well, that is a good point, because most folks who come over either use public transport or find driving difficult in France ,including the parking issue.
I am on the road on my job, and travel all over on weekends, and use every bit of vacation time with the family all over; by car, as with the family is cheaper and do think we enjoy the scenery more.
I have never encounter a bad parking problem even in Paris; use underground garages there, even for the last Paris VT meeting, was park 2 mins walking from the resto. Lourdes is a huge esplanade, and do get lots of folks, but when i went there, go up early in Toulouse and drove to arrive there before 9am, found parking plentiful; i guess with the hordes of tourists if I were to arrive by say 12 midday the parking could be another story.
But there plenty of parking for cars, just have to be there early ::)
