| Ko Muk | Trang Posted: Mon November 17, 2003 02:40 AM UTC
Has anyone been to Trang before? I'm planning to go there at the end of next month, although my actual plan was to go to Krabi. But, I can't decide whether to stay at the Pak Meng beach or at one of the nearby islands like Ko Muk/Ko Tarutao. Any recommendation? How frequent is the bus travelling from HatYai to Trang? Thanks!

If you're going thru Hat Yai, I'd suggest going to the Tarutaos first. There are minibuses that run between Hat Yai and Satun's Tammalang Pier or Pak Bara, both are launching points to get to the Tarutaos. The Tarutaos are not close to Trang and I'll take you the better part of a full day to get to the islands from Trang.
Trang is a sleepy but clean town with not a whole lot to do but eat and attend the night market. It's used more as a transit hub. If you're travelling solo I don't think you'll find much to do on your own at Pak Meng either. You'd do better to visit one of the islands like Ko Muk, Sukorn, Ko Ngai. You can book a snorkelling trip and visit the islands off Trang at any number of the tourists agencies in town as well as make arrangements to stay at these islands.

Yup, there's nothing much in Pak Meng. I went there last year and there's no beach there, just some muddy shoreline. However, you can stay in one of the resort there and go for a 1 day snokelling trip. But I prefer staying at the island better....

There are many interesting and beautiful, and best of all unspoilt sceneries (beaches, caves, waterfalls, etc) in and around Trang. I went there last time and love it.
My cousin organise tour to Thailand beaches and knew a local guide to show us around Trang. It is more of a personal guide. I think the locals want to keep the place for their next generation rather than having it spoilt due to too much publicity for tourism... Perhaps you would be better off to arrive there and find a guide. Lina
