12 hour layover at Singapore airport Posted: Thu April 9, 2009 09:08 AM UTC
Hi,
Booked a great airfare on Singapore airlines bit it reguires me to have a layover between flight, 930pm - 8 am. Was looking at a single budget at Ambassador Transit hotel, is it worth it?
Also, I was told that Singapore airlines give you voucherts for free food etc in transit, is this true?
Many thanks!

Hi,
Ask your airline what they provide. Singapore Airport has the MRT (subway)inside so you can go out and see the city very very quickly. Downtown Singapore is small. THe transit airport charges by the hour. They also run the pool/bar area on the roof (I recommend it, they provide towels and shower areas). Of all the cities and airports in the world, Changi is the best place with the most options you can have on a long layover.
Have a great time!

Considering you arrive at 9 30 pm, and leave again at 8 am, the best and cheapest option would be to stay at the transit hotel.
or take a taxi to an area nearby, Jhoo chiat Lane which is a red light district but has cheaper hotels and is one of more interesting places in Singapore to visit, and get a taxi back.. early in the morning. But as the other poster mentioned, if you have to stay at any airport in the world, Changi is the best..

If you've booked a "great airfare" you can bet there won't be any goodies such as meal vouchers being handed out with it. I've used the transit hotel in Singapore a few times when I've had overnight layovers travelling between the UK and Australia and think it's worth every penny to get a decent night's sleep, a wake up call and a shower before getting on with the rest of the journey.

Will your luggage be checked through to your final destination? And will you have a seat allocation on your next leg. I've just posted a question on Misc. Forum on this subject. Large luggage can be a pain on the MRT. On future similar transits I would stay in Geylang at one of the Fragrance Hotels ( its only for the night, and it's cheap). No line interchanges to negotiateif you're stopping over in Geylang. The MRT only starts at 6 am on a Sunday ( or did on my last transit). Taxis are fairly cheap in Singapore ( Clarke Quay to Changi at 8pm was $15).
