Would you suggest a mosquito net if you were staying at hostels?

I'll be there in June-July (rainy season so i'm figuring more bugs. . ) I'm just wondering if it is customary to bring along a mosquito net - do other people in the hostels use them? Thanks for your response!

If they are needed most hostels provide them and if you need one you can easily buy it in a local market for far cheaper than you can get them at home.

Taking a mosquito net is a complete waste of packing space. Even if you were going on a jungle trek, the outfitter would provide them.

God, no! Even if you were going on a jungle trek, the outfitter would provide one. In a hostel, they rely on a certain amount of good will, whether by word of mouth or reports in guide books.

However, if you also want the good exercise of a heavier pack and want to fill in some othewise empty space in it, by all means take one along. It could be quite a conversation piece if you take it out to air it out a bit.

I would be happy to sell you mine. After nearly 20 years, it is still unused, although it hasn't gone with me more than the one time. I give you "buen precio". Come to think of it, it is a great idea for you to take MY mosquito net with you.
