Cardiff Dining out in Cardiff
Posted: Mon April 6, 2009 03:50 PM UTC
Hi all!

I am going to be in Cardiff with a friend on Easter Sunday and Monday (12-13th) April. Any suggestions for eating out? Our budget is about £40 a meal, but we can go up to £60-70 for something really special. We don't want to go the chain restaurant route, e.g. ASK, Pizza Express, etc.

Thanks in advance!

You will be spoilt for choice. There are many good restaurants so its difficult to decide which ones are better than others.
The Mill Lane area has several fine eateries, as does Guilford Crescent, The Hayes, The Old Brewery Quarter and there are many others in Cardiff Bay.
http://www.bigcardiff.co.uk/cardiff-restaurant-guide.php has a comprehensive list. Avoid the Bosporous Turkish restaurant as its going down hill rapidly.
If you like Madeirean food then the Madeira restaurant is superb - http://www.madeirarestaurante.co.uk/

It's a taxi ride (or a waterbus trip across the bay or a walk across the barrage by day) but you might like to consider this place

Bistro style downstairs and more formal upstairs. Great view of Cardiff back across the bay

The weather forecast for this weekend isn't that great so it may be a bit breezy and too cold to walk across the barrage or even strolling around Cardiff Bay.
Play it by ear but the Cardiff football club are playing home on Monday against Burnley at 3.00 so Penarth might be a good idea as you might want to avoid the city centre before and after 3.00 until the evening when it should quieten down.

I know you've been and gone, but I was in Cardiff last week and discovered a couple of lovely places. I'd give special mention to Mulberry St. in Llandaff High Street. Wonderful food and great prices in a bistro style setting.
