I was given a 1hr 2o minute connection on Lufthansa From a Boston Munich flight to Munich Rome Flight . Is that going to be a problem? Will I have to go through security or customs. I am concerned. Can anybody help?

If you are flying LH 0425 connecting to LH 3858 it is a legal connection.

If you are flying with the same airline, then your bags will almost certainly be checked through, which considerably speeds up your transit. If your onward flight departs from the same terminal you may not even need to go through customs or 'outside' the the departure/transit area.

Lufthansa is a long-established and reliable airline. They would not provide you with such a connection if it were not feasible but, if you are concerned, why not contact them and check?

If you are really worried (perhaps about delays to your first flight), then maybe there is a later onward flight which you could take instead?

will give you maps of the terminals (I think you will be landing and departing from T2), airport facilities etc.

Thanks, I thought it was but will I have to go through customs or security? Will I feel rushed or nervous about missing my flight if my plane arrives fifteen or twenty minutes late.

Since we don't know what kind of anxiety level you have I doubt anyone on this forum is qualified to answer your question. However, if you miss your flight due to your Boston flight being late, it will be LH's responsibility for your onward travel, and since the next LH flight to Rome is at 300pm, LH 3862, you can sit in the airport sip on a coffee or tea and relax.

Thanks for your reply. My anxiety level will depend on whether I have to go through security and or customs with unpredictable lines in the process of getting from my flight arriving from Boston at 9:25 and leaving for Rome at 10:45. Or is it just a matter of walking from one gate to another within Terminal 2. Also do the flights typically arrive or depart from opposite piers ie come in the north and leave the south or visa versa? If so what distances are we talking about? Thanks

You will arrive and depart from Terminal 2, and in all likelyhood you will have to clear security, you will not go through customs, you won't have any problem there as you will have just your carry-on items. Your checked luggage will be transferred to your onward flight.

You will have to go through immigration as you're entering the Schengen zone in Munich.
As you have only carry on luggage at this time, it's unlikely that customs will have any questions or stop you.

Minimum transfer time is 30 minutes at Munich airport. Thus 1 hrs 20 min is really more than enough time.

Thank you for your reply. I am getting conflicting reports as to whether I need to go through immigration if I am just changing planes in Munich. Alsp does anyuone know how far apart inbound from Boston and outbound to Rome might be in Terminal 2?

You have to go through immigration at the point you are entering the Schengen zone first time.

There are no passport controls (but of course there are the usual security checks to get on a plane) when traveling inside Schengen.

Just a last comment, with all the anxiety and questions why did you not take the Alitalia non stop flight from Boston to Rome. No anxities, no concerns, just get on the aircraft in Boston and get off in Rome, easy, simple and so less exhausting.

We considered it but this flight was half the price. Probably not worth it but it looked good at the time until my wife showed me the connection times. Thanks

Having flown into Munich I have only dealt with Passport control(customs) when leaving the terminal. I would not worry about this at all. It is not even remotely close to customs in the US. Each time I went through it, they looked at the passport and if they asked anything it was "business or holiday?" and then stamped it. Whereas everytime I came back to the US(to Boston since we are in Maine) it was unbelievable. It is harder to come back to the US and being a resident is what makes that annoying.
