Re: Overnight on junk or in Cat Ba Island ? Posted: Sat April 4, 2009 08:48 AM UTC
I'm still in the mid of making decision whether to overnight on junk or in Cat Ba island? Appreciate if anybody can advise me on this issue.
Will it be bored if overnight on board?
What can I do if overnight in Cat ba Island or halong city?
What are the night activities for on board and around Cat ba island?
Is it safe to take the overnight junk which offers the cheapest tour fare at about USD50-80 (i couldn't remember the junk name)?

Hi,
THere's not much to do on the junk at night and you might have to put up what you get to with the crew's Vietnamese music videos/karaoke sessions. The bright side of it is that you get to go for a shark free swim in the wee hours of the morning. They also cook a Vietnamese meal for your dinner on the junk.
Night life in Catba island isn't all that of a thrill except for 1 night club which closes at about 11pm and a bar that's about 3 doors down from the club.
It's generally safe to walk around Catba at night so is overnight on a boat/junk.
There are plenty of things to do in Ha Long bay at night however, beware that you might get ripped-off by unknowingly venturing into tourist traps.
FYI - I have personally stayed overnight in Ha Long bay, Catba island and also on the junk. All were all safe.
Happy travelling.
Cheers!

Asian tent to like e to be in Cat Ba Island.
I am Asian too, but I like to be on the boat. It's very relaxing.
Though i am not sure if it will be relaxing with a tour from 50-80USD. You get what you pay.
If you want to find something unique, good quality and dont have to worry about anything. Recommend Indochina Junks ( Lagoon Explorer is the most resonable), they have Lagoon, Red Dragon, Prince and princess junk. They cruise different routes, not like the others.
