Trying to use my hotel points for one of two nights. Posted: Fri April 3, 2009 04:39 PM UTC
Would a hotel in BrainTree be a reasonable place to stay, as long as they have a free shuttle that will take you to the subway stop? We'll probably have to take a taxi to the hotel from the subway stop after our flight, I'm guessing.

There is a red line station in Braintree that will take you to downtown Boston in about 25 minutes. There isn't a hell of a lot to do in Braintree, other than the shopping mall. There is also an airport shuttle that goes to Braintree as well. I think it is called Logan Express. http://www.massport.com/logan/getti_typeo_logan.html
Another option might be Salem, MA. It is right on the commuter rail and there is plenty to do and see there, in terms of history, shopping and nightlife. It takes about an hour to get into Boston from there.

What Hotel chain are you thinking of? Most of the hotels in Braintree are not near the 'T' stations. Usually if you call the hotel they will send the shuttle to pick you up unless it is late at night. The Logan Express is a litle expensive if there are a few of you but the Sheraton is within a short walk of the terminal.

I've got enough points on Hilton chains, Priority Club (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, etc.), and possibly Marriott.

Try this Holiday Inn, right downtown, walking distance to a lot of sights, not far from the airport, and reputed to be fairly cheap for Boston.

This Holiday Inn is in Somerville, in a working class/light industrial neighborhood, a safe walk from the Orange line subway Sullivan station stop, which gets you downtown in about 10 minutes.

Re: Trying to use my hotel points for one of two nights. Posted: Tue April 7, 2009 05:25 AM UTC
I have a similar question about the two Hilton hotels: should I chose the historical one in the financial district or the Back Bay Hilton? I am looking for the one with the suitable location for the 1-2 days typical tourist activities in Downtown Boston... Somehow I could not read from Google which is the better location to do some sightseeing and shopping. Thanks for advising...

I recommend the one in the financial district. It is a great location. The back bay is a nice area, but for the tourism things you will want to do, the financial district is much better with just a few minutes walk to the waterfront, North End, Fanueil Hall and the Boston Commons and Theatre district. There is also easy walking to the major subway lines and commuter rail.
