Hello,

I'm in the process of buying flights for Egypt and would like to know if it's possible to catch an international 10:00 am flight out of Cairo if the train from Luxor arrives at 6:45am.
I'm not sure how far the train station is from the airport or the traffic on a Monday morning.

Please help. Thanks for any help in advance.

This should not be a problem if the train gets in on time. Last year, Mr. travelmad478 and I did the reverse trip (Heliopolis to the train station) at around 7 AM on a weekday morning. We took a taxi and were looking to catch an 8 AM train. The guy drove like a maniac, traffic was quite light at that hour of the morning, and the whole trip ended up taking less than 20 minutes. Getting a maniac cab driver in Cairo is the rule, not the exception, so I think you should be just fine!

I expected much worse traffic, since I am used to massive traffic jams in Cairo during business hours. But apparently Cairo rush hour starts much later than rush hour in other places. At 7 AM there were not many cars on the road at all.

I agree with travelmad. It should not be a problem. Most Cairo cab driver are able to get you to the airport in time they are quite skilled in Cairo traffic!

I wouldnt be happy doing that personally, I'd try and get an afternoon flight. You never know with these trains!! But in theory if it runs on time, then that shouldnt be a problem.

IF the train is on time you will be fine. That train, however, is often late. If you're the sort of person who'll get really stressed out by missing a flight (and most of us are) then it might be worth booking a different flight

I'd not run the risk. You cannot be sure whether the train will be on time, how bad traffic will be, etc etc...

You can rely on the drivers to get you to the airport in a jiff, but not on the trains to get in on time. Those long distance are notorious for being late. I wouldn't chance it.
