What is it like? Is it difficult to get to by car.

Are there alot of picnic spots in the Gardens.

Thanks in advance.

Pleasantly green in a dry island, woods and vineyards and orange, olive and lemon groves.

Very pleasant, very popular with the Maltese as well as visitors. You won't be short of a place to picnic, although you may have to share it with others.

Not at all difficult to access by car. Go towards Dingli and you will see the gardens signed. http://www.multimap.com/world/MT will give you a zoomable road map.

If you don't want to drive:

Bus 81 runs to Dingli/Buskett Gardens from Valetta. Timetable (summer) here:

There is also a hop-on, hop-off tour bus service:

Definitely tie it in with a trip to Dingli Cliffs and the "Cart Tracks (Clapham Junction). See Leics tip above which (as usual) is spot-on.
Beware that there are only a couple of guys in vans selling drinks at Dingli Cliffs (the restaurant and bar that was there was CLOSED during the daytime when we visited last summer!)

Nice place to let the trials and tribulation of being a Tourist wash away.

Easy to get to by car or bus as Liec said.
Do not expect the Black Forest but pleasant and quiet and restful.
If you avoid the weekend you might just have it all to yourself.

Lots of walks and space for kids to frolic in.
