Sydney Parking in Sydney CBD
Posted: Thu April 2, 2009 02:18 AM UTC
We are planning to visit Sydney for a few days and we have a rented car as we are staying outside the CBD area. I find the parking charges are AUD12-18 per hour in the CBD area. Does anybody know of any parking with a per entry charge relatively near the city where we can park for hours and move around without having to worry about the clock ticking? We are a group of 6 and we plan to visit all the usual attractions in the city. Are there street parking charges on weekends too? Suggestions welcomed.

If I were you it is best to leave your car outside the CBD and use public transport--you can go all around the city via train or bus or walking (a great way to get to know the city) the monorail is ok too.You can get day passes for the train/bus/ferry check them out---hop on hop off www.sydneytransport.com
Enjoy Sydney

If you are planning to be in the CBD on a weekend you will find a lot of parking stations have a cheaper rate, also at night, it will be say $10 after 6pm. However if park in say a parking station in Harris St Ultimo just near Darling harbour it will be cheaper than right in the CBD, from there it is a short walk to the Monorail. However for true convenience and hang the expense park at the Opera House Car park. Absolutely fantastic location, you can't ask for better.

I never park in the street when we drive into Sydney we always park in a carpark .
Our favourite is actually in the Citigate hotel carpark near Haymarket and Chinatown
The adress is 169-179 Thomas Street
Sydney NSW 2000
They are open 24 hours and charge per day on weekends its $12 a day so maybe Around $20 for the week day charge .It is central to Chinatown ,Paddys market ,Darling Harbour George Street and the Central railway and bus interchange .The monorail and light rail both go from Chinatown .The powerhouse museum is also there close by . We park here every weekend when we go into city for the day .
You can google carparking in Sydney and it will come up with maps showing location and in some case caosts as well .eg www.secureparking.com.au , www.wilsonparking.com.au or even the Domain carpark at http://www.domaincarpark.com.au/rates-a-times.shows that a day is $38 Maximum Daily or
Early Bird Rate (Enter Before 9:30am Exit 3:30-7pm on non-public holidays) $15.00
Weekend Rate (Saturday & Sundays except during special event days) $10.00
so check then out as I think the prices you have quoted are crazy I would never pay that
Goodluck Hope this helps

You don't need a car in the CBD, it's more trouble than it's worth.
Look for a train station or a busy bus route near where you are staying, park the car there and catch public transport in.

On the other hand, since there are 6 of you, it may well be cheaper to pay $20 a day parking. But it is still a big hassle to fight the traffic every day!

Thanks everybody for the helpful tips. Aside, there seems to be a system glitch as some of the responses were repeated.

I totally agree with Fiona. Don't bring your car into the CBD. Public transport is plentiful, varied and cheap. And the CBD traffic is a nightmare, anyway.
