Sankt Johann in Tirol Travel Forum

i'm planning on coming snowboarding to Austria and would like to know about the snow situation...

i have planned to come on the 2nd week of dec and will be staying in St Johann and Kitzbuehel. have looked at weather sights and there is no sight of snow yet :-(

is it normal for this time of the year? please let me know if you have any experience in the area

mmmm, well snow in december in the notheren hemisphere is normal but it is the oppisite in the southern hemisphere. What im trying to say is that december in Australia is sumer time! Even in the mountains there will be no snow. Sorry, although australia is still very beautiful in decemebr it is just extremly hot. i spent four and half months there during their summer time novemeber to april. So have a good time there but don't expect to snowboard....try surfing it might be more fitting for the season.

The mountains at Kitzbühel are high enough to have snow, even if there is not a lot of snow in the village itself.
I used to be in Kitzbühel 2 times at Christmas and snow was half a meter all over the city.
By the way, all of Austria was already covered with 10cm of snow for 2 days in October already this year.

Scientists say that a strong and cold (and hopefully snowy ) winter will follow that hot summer.

in addition to what was already said - you could keep an eye on the local situation thru the portal site www.tiscover.com. It has links to wather, snow situation and webcams for all resorts in Austria, starting early december at latest.

Some how I see the lack of snow in December not bothering you after all...

I always go to Oberndorf where my sis in law lives. this is just up the road form St Johann. They often do not have snow until after Xmas. last year was quite bad, we ususlly go new year or february. However, they do have plenty of snow cannons and I would always choose a resort where these are plenty. If you like nearere the time i will ask My sis in law what wetaher is like then you know what to expect when you get there. She works in St Johann.
