Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Perth Perth Land tours / Perth or Fremantle as travel base
Posted: Wed April 1, 2009 11:28 AM UTC
Am thinking of heading to Perth in May to take advantage of the recent jetstar sales. However I don't drive, so was wondering if there are any land tours I can sign on for while in Perth.

Also, is it more convenient to stay in Perth or Fremantle? It's my first trip to Australia, so I can't be sure which is better.

Thanks all
Nicole

Perth is proably more convenient - better overall public transport links to places around the city and more choices of places to stay. Fremantle's only half an hour away by train.

Plenty of day and 1 -2 night away tours to choose from. Days will be shorter in May - sunrise at 7, sunset by 5.30) so you might want to consider spending a night or two out of the city if you want to head for the Margaret River region or the South Coast for example.

This website - http://www.activesafaris.com.au/12119.htm - will give you an idea of some of the things on offer and the prices you can expect to pay

Second vote from me to stay in Perth. You are going to have a wonderful time here!.....and yes Jetstar is cheap at the moment!...I just booked with them as well :o) Anyway, there's heaps of options for day trips! Did you specifically want land tours?...because Rottnest Island is a great place to visit! ...also the Captain Cook half or full day trip to the Swan Valley Wineries is lovely. Captain Cook also do a nice return ferry journey to Fremantle. Pinnacles day trip is well worth a look at too. You can buy an all day train/bus/ferry pass after 9.00am an head north on the Clarkson line to Warwick and catch the bus to Hillarys Boat Harbour. Or you could head south on the Mandurah line and visit Mandurah for the day. Here's a couple of tour/trip sites -
