I was at my bank today and was told that travelers cheques aren't accepted like they used to be because they are easy to counterfeit. I will have a debit card but also wanted to bring travelers cheques. Has anyone had luck using these in Argentina??

bring cash and your debit/credit cards, travelers cheques are not easily taken anywhere i have been in Argentina.

If you want the security of a traveler's cheque, see if you can get one of the new travelers cheque debit cards. I got mine at AAA, but I think you can order them through some banks, too. It's also by Amex and is the same system as the paper cheques, but is set up like a debit card so you can use it at ATMs, in stores, etc. I used one in Italy and didn't have any problems. I had about $50 left on it when I came home and traded it in at AAA for cash.

Yes, unfortunately traveller's checks are not that used anymore. It's too much hassle to have them changed. I had no problems with ATM's though - they are everywhere ( I even withdrew money at Tigre which is at least an hour I think from the city center). Have fun with the tango, Norman :)
