We're planning a 3 month trip starting in Christchurch. We would like to rent or house sit a base accommodation for 6-8 weeks in the Christchurch / mid-South Island area and do our trips out from there. We are two adults and two children 6 + 4 and we both have been in New Zealand several times before. Any help would be much appreciated.

Would you consider a home swap? Homelink is a reputable company, there are others of course, but I have acquaintances who did the home swap and found it great, someone in your house while you are aways also a bonus rather than leaving it empty.

When I look on websites like the ones of the German club in Christchurch, there are always little ads of people looking for house sitters:

The problem might be to adjust the dates when house sitting is needed and when you want to travel.
