Hi all

I am in South America for 6 weeks at the mo, in a few weeks I arrive in Santiago and head to Easter Island the next day (i am in santiago for 2 nights after Easter).

Instead of wasting money on taxis to a hostel in town for the night then back to the airport in the morning, does anyone know of any CHEAP hotels close to the airport.

OR one of those dodgy small places that have a bed and a shower and are very basic (i stayed in one by honolulu airport once)?

The only hotel at the airport area is the Holiday Inn. Everything else would require you to travel closer to town. http://www.holidayinnexpress.cl/app04/hogar/aerop.html is the webpage for the hotel. As it is a Holiday Inn express it is designed to be a more "no frills" type hotel.

That place isn't cheap and it is easily in the + 4 star (Chile rating) range and is a true airport hotel with restaurant and conference facilities.

Unless you get a mistake price or really great offer, it will actually be cheaper to take the bus (Tur of CentroPuerto) and Metro (assuming one or two easily transportable pieces of luggage; there is also a Custodia at the airport and bus station if needed) and stay at a hostel in town.
