The appliance should be rated for 240 volts, or 120-240 volts as many battery charginging appliances are, but the appliance should have this information stamped on it, somewhere. It's likely you will instantly know if something is not 240 volt compatible when you plug it in, caution.

Sorry I think what I wrote above might not be clear, Do not attempt to plug-in anything unless you are certain it is compatible with the local electricity.

Yes, be careful with the voltage of appliances you hook up. I had no problems with my laptop though because the plug already comes with a "box" which converts the voltage to a lower one. Also, in Helsinki, they have the plugwith "two circles" --- see it at http://goscandinavia.about.com/od/finland/f/eloutletfinland.htm

Then, in other European countries, the kinds of plugs may change again. So, I buy that adaptor which has ONE plug in, but has many different plug-outs...THE WORLD POWER ADAPTOR. Hope this helps, Norman :)

Yes. Naturally, you’ll have to ask the Apollo space crew to retrieve your 110-volt appliance if you were to plug it into the standard European volt net. But I assume it’s this step up adapter you’ve already purchased so you’re OK .

Besides that there are a number of different sized plugs in various European countries but I find that the majority of the two-pronged plugs can be slightly ”forced” into most of the outlet wall receptacles without any adverse effect. In any case, if you find you’re faced with a stubborn outlet that doesn’t want to take your plug you can always purchase additional prong adapters very cheaply while you’re abroad.

As long as you’ve got a voltage adapter you shouldn’t have much trouble.

I don't think one can 'assume' from the description "adaptor plug" that a voltage change will occur.... so not OK

Dealing with lethal electricity, I'd have thought "forcing' would not be an option.

You misquote me, Pedro.

I said “step up adapter” not merely, "adaptor plug" as youv’e written.

Also, I said “slightly forced”, not bunged in with your foot or beat into the wall with a hammer.

I haven't seen a camera or cell phone that wasn't multivoltage in ten years or so. Unless you're planning to bring some normally non-portable appliance, you'll almost certainly be fine with an ordinary adaptor plug.

Sorry P-B. I did not wish to offend. Dealing with potentially lethal electricity advice to "the uninitiated" should be tempered with caution.
