Christchurch good breakfast place recommendation
Posted: Mon March 30, 2009 05:01 AM UTC
Hi all! i've booked my hotel in christchurch but didn't opt for their breakfast (costs around $10+ at the hotel).

Any recommendations for breakfast places (sandwiches, pastries, Mcdonald's etc) around the Cathedral Sq area? We'll be staying at the ibis.

thanks

Several places nearby. First, there is a McCafé/McDonald's on Colombo Street, just around the corner from your hotel. Next option: The Food Court above the Bus Exchange, just 50 metres down from McDonald's, on the other side of the street. There is a Muffin Break, Robert Harris, etc.

Many visitors swear on the Copenhagen Bakery in Armagh Street. You would go to Cathedral Square, carry on north on Colombo Street, turn the second street to the right. The bakery is on the left side of the street. There are a lot of cafés around the Square, the prices are similar.

Full (cooked) breakfast in proper cafés is rather expensive, $ 15+ without coffee. So check out what you get for the $10+ at the Ibis Hotel, it might still be the cheapest option.

If you go to a café a large fancy coffee costs you NZ$ 4.50 to 5, a muffin or slice 3.50, a sandwich 4.50 to 5.00, panini and such things 7 to 8.

A Breakfast McMuffin (with bacon and egg) with hash brown and coffee costs NZ$ 5 at McDonald's.

If you are staying at the Ibis then you probably have an Accor booklet, look up the "Hotel off the Square", across from it and around that area are lots of little cafés and also the trolley station.
