Bucharest transport - restaurants
Posted: Sun March 29, 2009 11:57 PM UTC
I am staying in Bucharest from 23 till 27 of april. I booked a room at the Ramada Majestic Hotel. I want to use bus or tram from the airport(Otopeni) to the city. Which(bus-tram)number do I take and where do I have to stop ? What do I have to see, and where will I eat? Never have been in this country before.

To get to the Majestic take bus 783 from the airport (runs every half hour, two rides tickets is 7 lei/€1.8), get off at "Piata Universitatii" (University square) station and then walk a bit heading west until you get to the hotel (from Piata Universitatii start on the main street heading west, the Regina Elisabeta boulevard, until the nearest crossroad and there turn north on Calea Victoriei road, the hotel is 2-3 minutes away).

In Bucharest you should at least visit the Palace of Parliament, the historical quarter and the Village Museum; there are also many other museums, historical churches, parks etc., is there something you're particularly interested in?
You should also try to do some day trips to the mountain resorts on the Prahova Valley (~2 hours away by train) and to the cities in southern Transylvania (especially to Brasov, which is ~3 hours north of Bucharest by train).

As for eating, there are hundreds of places, what cuisine do you prefer?

thanks for the reply. It was very helpfull. Sorry for the late answer, but I have been away a few days.
I like historical buildings, national history musea, churches, parcs.
I am not very mobile, so I want tu use bus or metro or tram.( I am 61, my husband 63 and we both do have heart problems,we still can do lots of things, but on a 'slow way')
I want to taste the romanian food. Not the expensive restaurants, but places where do eat the Romanian people.
And can you explain me what 'mititei' or something like that is. I dont speak one word of Romanian. I do speak German, French, English. Can I use one of these languages. I do speak Dutch and Spanish as well, but I dont think this will be helpfull......
Thanks
