i was looking to buy some stuff in perth - keen to take a souvenir home with me - but perth doesn't seem to be a really big shopping town - i was only there a week mind

there is a market in fremantle - but i just bought food and drink

it is a strangely old fashioned place perth

i was offered a view of the city from kings park - that is what the locals wanted to offer me

I agree with Craic, whilst you can find some good pockets for shopping in Perth I would not chose it as a shopping destination. For cheap outlet stores check out Harbour Town which is located just outside of the city centre. For cheap sporting gear look for a Jim Kidd store, there is many, as they have some really good bargains. For your cheap souvenirs I would suggest the Fremantle Markets.

Do check out harbourtown but know your prices as some things can be more expensive. Souvenior's are basically aimed at the sailor's that visit and tend to be more Australian then Perth ie koala's, etc Fremantle markets are interesting to visit but nothing different can be purchased their, its more a historic tourist icon, but is worth the stroll around.

London Court is an Experience!!!! i love it because my hubby being military finds all there! Try to get there on the quarter or hour clock to see the horses on the clock. London court is a time in the past, take the time to enjoy it!

Hi Desmond and welcome to vt! Yes Harbour Town is good for cheap shopping. You can catch any bus on Wellington Street just opposite the train station for free...just ask if they go past Harbour Town. You can get some good cheap stuff at the weekend markets at Subiaco...just a couple of train stops from Perth on the Fremantle line. There's heaps of shops in the malls for cheap souvenior shopping. There's a good one around the corner from Myer on the way to Perth train station. Everyone loves London Court :o) Another nice idea is to spend a day at Hillarys Boat Harbour north of Perth....I just love the shops there!....and lovely souvenior shops! Buy an all day ticket after 9.00am and catch a Whitfords/Clarkson train north to Warwick Station and get the bus out to Hillarys Boat Harbour. Here's the link - www.hillarysboatharbour.com.au
Cheers, Ann :o)
