Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Beirut Tel Aviv or Israel to Beirut buses
Posted: Sat March 28, 2009 12:08 AM UTC
Hello!, Im coming to Tel Aviv in May and was interested in taking a day trip from Tel Aviv or Haifa to Beirut. Does anyone know of any bus service that goes between the two nations and is there alot of trouble at the border?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

David

Focus your hotel search on the Sultanahmet district in the area near to the Blue Mosque at the top of the hill. This is a safe area.

??? I'm wondering if this is a joke post. Apologies if it isn't.

To put it mildly, Israel and Lebanon do not get on. The border is closed and has been for decades. There are also no flights between the two countries.

To visit Lebanon from Israel, you first need to cross over into Jordan, being very careful not to get your passport stamped by either the Israelis or the Jordanians. You might need a Jordanian visa to enter Jordan. Then you need to cross over into Syria (another visa required), and change buses in Damascus, crossing the mountains into Lebanon (yep, another visa...). Not something you can do as a day trip.

Save Beirut for another trip. ;@P

maykal's answer is correct.

In addition if you are carrying any evidence at all - even a bus ticket or shop receipt - to show that you have been in Israel you will be denied entry to Syria.

Besides that they also check your entry point into Jordan. If you cannot show how you entered (i.e. no border stamp at all), or if it shows that you entered via one of the Israel/Jordan crossing points you will be denied entry also.

The only possibility is to go to Beirut first, then via Syria and Jordan to Israel. But again - if you are carrying any evidence at all that you mean to visit Israel afterward Syria will deny you entry.
