Toronto YYZ (toronto) airport international connections
Posted: Fri March 27, 2009 02:10 PM UTC
I'm planning to travel from Dublin to LAX with a stopover at Toronto airport. I won't be booking the tickets separately it just says DUB -LAX via YYZ on the travel website.

* Do I need to collect my baggage and retransfer upon arrival or departure?

* Is YYZ airport an alright one for connecting flights?.......I'll be travelling alone and never done the whole connecting process....so I'm kinda nervous.....

thanks

Your baggage should be checked all the way through to LAX so you should not have to pick it up. There should be airline personal to help you with connection information once you deplane. If not, check the departure boards for your gate. You'll be fine. :-) Happy Travels!

>>>DUB -LAX via YYZ on the travel website<<<<<

It really depends on the website. If it is Expedia, Kayak or one of the resellers, not an airline, you may have 2 separate tickets and will have to recheck-in. More info would be needed. There are 2 terminals in Toronto and you may have to change Terminals

You will be clearing U.S. customs in Toronto prior to your departure to Los Angeles.

If that is the case then she/he will need to get her/his baggage to clear customs, correct?

No, If it is 2 airlines, they will clear Canadian Immigration, collect bags, possibly change terminals, check-in then go through US Immigration.

Then where would you go through US customs?

When we flew out of Vancouver - I believe we cleared U.S. immigration/customs there - I remember having our luggage with us and then putting it on another belt (a chute actually) - not the normal check-in counter... Whatever it was, it was very convenient.

And for the original poster - what if it's not 2 airlines? Same procedure you described?
