Re: Insurance in B.A. Posted: Thu March 26, 2009 09:31 PM UTC
You can either purchase a travel insurance policy which I can tell you will not be accepted at most hospitals in Argentina. They will want you to pay and then be reimbursed by your insurance company. I do recommend one travelers medical assistance group in Buenos Aires and you might check my travel pages for the name and contact information. You other option at least in Argentina is to purchase health insurance from a group such as Swiss Medical. Short term policies are available and include dental and discounted Rx's. Here is a link for them http://www.swissmedical.com.ar/frontend/index.asp
Aurora Couretot is a Doctor turned insurance broker for SM and speaks fluent English and would be able to better advise you on a policy. Her email is acouretot@yahoo.com.ar with their policy they would also cover you in Brazil but not sure if the hospitals would accept it or not. She would be able to guide you there as well. It would be much cheaper buying it locally than one of the travelers policies. I found the quality of health care through Swiss to be outstanding and my primary care Doctor highly skilled.
Hope this helps and have a great visit.
