Cannes Film festival advice
Posted: Thu March 26, 2009 02:46 PM UTC
My wife and I are planning a trip to Cannes / Antibes for the last weekend of the film festival this year (2009). We will be driving and are considering staying at the Stars Antibes Hotel. I have several questions if anyone is interested in helping.

1. How much will it cost to use public transportation to get from ANtibes to the festival area in Cannes?

2. Would it be possible to drive into Cannes and park?

3. Any advice on star spotting spots in Cannes would be greatly appreciated!

4. Any Advice about the festival or the area would be greatly appreciated. Especially info on eating and avoiding being robbed by high festival prices!

5. I also found a cheap hotel near the airport in Cannes. Would this be a better location?

We will be driving from Bavaria, Germany on Friday 22 and returning to Germany on Tuesday the 26th. Again any help would be greatly appreciated.

You may want to look into a train for travels to and from Cannes from Baveria.

It is a drive. You could travel at night on the train and save a day each way of travel not to mention the toll roads in France.

It is possible to drive but parking is very limited and many streets are blocked to traffic due to the crowds. "Star spotting" is everywhere and usually where you least expect. The restaurants along the coast are normally crowed and surprisingly many mingle. Jessica Alba came in to one and was seated right next to one of my travel companions.

The suggestion of taking the train is a good one. It is convenient but does limit your local travel some what.

It's possible to bump into stars almost anywhere in Cannes during the Film Festival. However I suggest you head for the Palace of Festivals first (on the sea front - an ugly concrete building known locally as 'the bunker') to check out events during your stay.
Stars regularly visit the Palace, especially during evening time. There's a red carpet at the front of the building and you can watch the famous few turn up in a limo, pose and generally strut their stuff, before they attend a film premier or ceremony. Don't worry about getting a good view as there's usually live tv coverage playing on large video screens next to the Palace entrance. Once you get bored with this, have a walk along the sea front (known as the Croisette) as there will be plenty to see. You can watch films on the beach, shop for pictures of the stars, or try and gate crash a party!
Enjoy!
