Hanoi hanoi question
Posted: Thu March 26, 2009 02:02 AM UTC
Hi,
Forgot to mention that we are Australian citizens in our question eralier on. Sorry about that.

My family and I are going to Malaysia for holiday next week. We might then plan (impromptu!) to go to Hanoi for 5 days. Wondering if anyone can tell me if we can and able to apply entry/visitor visa on arrival at the Hanoi airport? If possible, what do we documents do we need beside the our passports?

Thanks in advance in anticipation of anyone help.

Double check, but I'm quite certain you have to have your VISAs prior to getting into Vietnam and can't get them at the border/airport. This was the case when I was there in early 2008. I got mine in Canada and it was expensive. I wish I had gotten it in Cambodia or Laos, where I was before Vietnam. You might want to inquire if you can get them in Malaysia. Granted, peace of mind is worth something as well so maybe take care of it before you go!

You can get visa on arrival, but you have to apply before you come (site in last post do them, as do many travel agents). They send you an email (after payment) which you give to the VOA desk and you pay 25$, you can't just turn up and get one, in fact they wont let you on the plane in Malaysia

this may help you :
Applying by post:

First, download the application form from the Website.

Second, the Applicant must submit or send by registered/express post to the Embassy the following documents:

1. Original and valid PASSPORT which must have at least one-month validity after the expiry of the visa and one blank page left. Please keep note of your passport details in case you might need them while your passport is with the Embassy;

2. One completed APPLICATION FORM with one passport-size photo affixed on the Form. Please fill the form eligibly and accurately to avoid misinterpretation and to facilitate the visa processing. You will be responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide in the Application Form;

3. If you require your passport(s) to be returned by post, please send in a return self-addressed ENVELOPE (Express post or Registered mail is recommended)

4. VISA FEE must be paid in cash, money order or bank cheque payable to the Embassy of Vietnam. We accept Australian dollars only. Visa fees are various and depend on the length of stay and visa types, please contact the Embassy for further information. Contact phone numbers: 02 - 6286 6059; 6290 1556; 6290 1894; 6286 6267 (EXT: 101; 102)

Of course you can get visa at the Hanoi airport (Noi Bai) or even Tan Son Nhat airport or Da Nang airport. You fill the form at https://secure.vietnam-visa.com/apply.html, submit it and wait for 1 or 2 days to get visa on arrival. For detail information, you can click http://www.vietnam-visa.com
